Jennifer Hutson -
Growing up in Richmond, VA Jennifer developed an interest in Sign Language. She attended her first Sign Language Class in High School. When her first daughter Grace was born she used American Sign Language to bridge the gap in communication and to ease not only her two years olds frustration but hers as well. Jennifer remembers, “When I used American Sign Language daily, in our natural routine with Grace I could quickly see the results, she was happier and enjoyed expressing herself in a positive way, which made mama happy!” When her 2nd daughter Faith was born deaf she felt a great purpose that God had prepared her to educate and raise her daughter. Jennifer then went back to school to become an Interpreter and immersed herself in Deaf culture. She has worked as an educational advocate for deaf children, starting a state-wide parent support group and working on multiple advocacy programs teaching other parents of Deaf children and the professionals that work with them. She currently volunteers at her daughters school, interprets at church and enjoys teaching others about American Sign Language and Deaf Culture.“I want to thank all parents who take time to teach their children about American Sign Language. It is a precious gift of communication with their own children but also a gift to others, bridging social gaps between hearing and deaf children. More and more hearing children can relate to my daughter, making her world that much better!”
